To DIP or not to DIP…..

So, what is this dip thing we keep hearing about?

In short, it’s acrylic. Unlike traditional acrylic, it has little odor since it doesn’t use traditional monomer (liquid) to apply. Instead, the dip consists of applying a resin (glue) to the nail and dipping the finger into acrylic powder to coat the nail. This is done several times to achieve the desired (or in some cases) not so desired look.

Why would I want this?
We’re not sure. We purchased a trial kit and tried it so that we could weigh out the pros and the cons for ourselves and for our clients.

PROS:
It’s seemingly easy to apply.
It requires very little finish filing to the top layer. (unlike traditional enhancements)

CONS:
It’s messy. That darn powder gets everywhere and that’s just annoying.
It doesn’t hold up any better than a traditional gel polish. (if prepped and applied properly)
Removal is a four-letter word. It’s takes 25-30 minutes to remove AND
The product is removed and completely reapplied on EVERY appointment.
Colors are limited, take valuable space and don’t offer as much variety as we currently have in gel polish for our no chip services.

MYTHS:
It does not contain vitamins that we aid in the health of your nails. Nails are dead, therefor any “nutrients” that some brands and techs claim are in the systems WILL NOT effect the overall health of your nails. It’s just not possible so don’t be fooled.
The dip system or any other system is not more or less healthy for you nails. Any professional system, if applied and maintained properly will not damage your nails. If you have had experiences to the contrary, it’s not the product, it’s either the tech or it’s you (picking off your product). Lol

So, are we going to start doing this DIP thing?
We are going to keep our dip exclusively to chips. lol
